This is could be a critical tool for some practices.
The routing slip has several key functions:
1. It acts as a way for the clinical team to quickly jot down important diagnoses and services for a patient when it is not possible to do notes after each and every patient. The route slip allows the assistant, hygienists, and/or clinician to not be committing their entire day to memory and potentially quickly access various pre-written SOAP Note templates.
2. The route slip should be collected every day by the administrative/front office team. That does not mean claims need to be submitted everyday or notes done everyday, rather the front office team should use the route slip to keep the practice accountable. So, the front office team should make sure the notes are done for the route slip services, the notes match what is on the route slip especially in regards to diagnosis, and finally submit the claim.
